EAST SIDE HIGH SCHOOL

EAST SIDE HIGH SCHOOL

East Side High School, home of the Trojans, enrolls students in grades 9 through 12. ESHS, in its quest for excellence in education, has applied to join the International Baccalaureate Organization Middle Years Program. This program is offered to students in grades 9 and 10 as an extension of the Middle Years curriculum offered at the middle school level.  This prestigious program will increase the participating students’ ability to think critically, increase cultural awareness, and afford students the tools they need to compete in a global society.

The Title I School Wide Project supports the addition of class size reduction teachers, a counselor assistant and a variety of additional opportunities needed for the staff to raise the bar of academic achievement.  Art classes expand the students’ horizons and extend the opportunity to “show off” their masterpiece in the community.

The W.C. Robinson Achievement Center offers an alternative to conventional education for students in grades 5-8 who are two or more years behind in their regular class work.  Sometimes, a student’s education is interrupted by problems that are within their control or maybe even outside their control, which affects their achievement.  These students often benefit from a change in their school environment.  Smaller classes and more individualized instruction allow the students to learn at their own pace and take responsibility for their education.

Extracurricular activities encourage the students to utilize their special talents. ESHS is known statewide for its high caliber athletics. The State Championship level football and basketball teams are now legendary. The baseball, tennis, track, golf, and softball teams also meet high standards. The Trojan Marching 100 Band is a force in its own right. Many fans attend sporting events strictly to watch the Band’s show. Service clubs such as the National Honor Society and the Student Council involve students in their community, preparing them for the future.

Parents and community members are invaluable resources for the school.  School spirit is high, even among graduates who live out of state.  These alumni continue to support their Alma Mater and still proudly call themselves Trojans.  The PTSA, Band and Athletic Boosters demonstrate their true Trojan spirit.
